BOYDEN PUBLIC LIBRARY INTERNET ACCESS GUIDELINES/POLICY
The Boyden Public Library strives to enrich the process of life-long learning for all the community. Our mission is to provide access to materials, services, and information, which help residents of Boyden and the surrounding area meet their personal, educational
and professional needs. The library is not responsible for the content, timeliness, accuracy, or quality of information on the internet. The library is not liable for direct or indirect damages users may incur as a result of using the public computers or internet
access.

The library expects all patrons accessing the internet on its computers to be responsible and ethical users by not using computers to:
*Invade the privacy of others
*Harass or slander others
*Distribute unsolicited advertising
*Make unauthorized entry into other computers or communication services.
*Use of the internet for any illegal activity but not limited to copyright
infringement, fraud, propagation of computer viruses, gambling or accessing
material deemed obscene by Iowa Code 728.1-728.3.

Rules and Procedures
All Internet resources accessible through the library are provided equally to all library users. All library Internet users must have a current library card issued from the Boyden Public Library. Parents and guardians, not the library or its staff are responsible for the
Internet information selected and or/accessed by their children. Use of the computers by non-card holding library users will be at the librarian’s discretion.

Use of the internet is on a first come, first served basis. A time limit of 30 minutes is allowed. If a patron has already had computer privileges in a days’ time, they may be asked to give up their spot to someone who has homework to do, or who has not previously been on the computer during that day. If a patron does not show respect to the librarian they will be asked to leave. There will only be one person allowed per computer. Parents and guardians, not the library staff, are responsible for their minor children’s access to the internet. The Board authorizes library staff to develop rules and procedures allowing fair use of the library’s computers to observe use of public computers for the purposes of enforcing library policies and to suspend or terminate computer privileges for violation of library policies and rules.

A network printer is located in the work room. Printed copies cost 20 cents per page for black and white copies. Users will pay before printing at the front desk. Colored copies are $1.00 each.

Library users may not download software of other applications to library computers. Only library software may be used on library computers. Patrons may bring in flash drives to save or to access files that will work with library software. Flash drives are available for purchase at the library. The library does not allow any materials to be saved to the library computers.

Due to the potential damage food and beverages may cause to computer equipment, they are not allowed in the computer area.

STAFF ASSISTANCE:
Our library staff cannot provide in-depth training concerning internet jargon on personal computer use. We do have programs through Learning Express and other modules that you can complete at your own pace to learn to use the computer and the internet. Staff time does not allow one-on-one instructions.
